Wriggle-proof car safety for your growing child
Car journeys can be a wonderful voyage of discovery for curious children. There’s always something to see—whether it’s the ever-changing view outside the window or something exciting inside the car. As your child grows older, they become more mobile, more independent, and the back seat becomes their own little space for playing, reading, resting, reaching and moving about.
At Britax, we don’t just test our products with crash dummies—we observe real children and how they actually behave in the car. We know that when a child is sitting in a booster seat secured with a standard 3-point adult seat belt, natural movement such as wriggling, sleeping, play-fighting or turning can cause the lap belt to gradually ride up over their stomach. This can happen even if the belt was positioned correctly across the pelvic bones at the start of the journey.
50 Years of Safety Innovation
Britax Safe-n-Sound has been at the forefront of child safety development for more than 50 years. Over this time, we’ve introduced many breakthrough innovations designed to better protect children on the road. Our latest innovation, SecureGuard™, takes booster seat safety even further.
SecureGuard™ adds a fourth attachment point to the adult seat belt. This additional point helps keep the lap belt in the ideal position over the child’s pelvic bones and more effectively distributes impact forces in a frontal collision. At the same time, it still allows children the freedom to move naturally during the journey.
Extra Protection When Your Child Transitions to a Booster
When your child grows and transitions from a convertible car seat to a booster seat that uses the vehicle’s 3-point adult seat belt, SecureGuard™ provides an additional layer of protection.
For babies and toddlers, we always recommend using a 5-point harness for as long as possible, as it firmly secures both the shoulders and hips, offering the highest level of restraint for younger children
What Is the Correct Position for a 3-Point Adult Seat Belt with a Booster?
Adult seat belts are designed for adults—not growing children. A booster seat helps correctly position the 3-point adult seat belt over a child’s body so it can function safely. However, because children naturally move during travel, the lap belt may shift from its safe position across the pelvic area and ride up over the stomach instead. SecureGuard™ helps prevent this movement, helping to keep the lap belt correctly positioned where it offers the most protection.
What Is the Best Choice for Your Family?
SecureGuard™ makes an already safe seat even safer and is available on four popular models from our most trusted car seat ranges, including:, Kid Guard, Hi-Liner SG™, Tourer™.
