5 fun things to do with your baby this Winter

The mercury has finally dropped, you’ve pulled out your winter jumpers and lying on the beach over summer is just a distant memory. Although winter in Australia doesn’t get as cold as other parts in the world, we still get a fair few chilly days.

With a baby, you might be tempted to hibernate inside with hot cups of tea and wait for the warmer weather. However, staying inside day-after-day can make anyone go stir crazy - even your baby!

Fortunately, there are lots of activities you can do that will keep bub warm while also giving you both lots of fresh air and winter sunshine. Here are some ideas.

1. Go for a walk

Going for a walk is one of the best and easiest ways to exercise when your baby is little. With the winter sun on your back, a gentle breeze and the promise of a hot coffee at the end, going for a long walk in winter can be absolutely glorious.

But if the weather is cooler, it’s natural to worry that it’s too cold for your baby. Fortunately, with the Britax Flexx, Steelcraft Strider Signature, Steelcraft Strider Compact Deluxe edition and Steelcraft Savvi strollers, it’s not a concern.

While you work up a sweat, your bub will be cosy and warm thanks to the boot cover that comes with the stroller. The Britax Flexx, Steelcraft Strider Signature and Steelcraft Strider Compact Deluxe edition strollers come with rain covers so if you’re caught in a sudden shower, your bub will be nice and dry. The Steelcraft Strider Signature and Steelcraft Strider Compact Deluxe edition strollers also have an insert with award-winning Thermo5 - a high performance bamboo charcoal fabric that provides airflow and wicks moisture away, keeping babies warm, dry and comfortable. If you’re really lucky, the gentle movement of the stroller and the warm boot cover will guarantee an extra-long nap.

It’s the perfect way for both of you to spend a morning.

2. Mums and bubs movies

You may have feared you’d never make it to the movies again after having a baby, but think again! Most cinemas offer reduced cost tickets each week to a session that is dedicated ‘mums and bubs’.

This means you’re welcome to come with your baby and no one is going to shush you if your little one kicks up a fuss. A word of warning though—many cinemas don’t allow strollers so keep that in mind. You can often choose to bring in your Britax Safe-n-Sound Unity or Steelcraft capsule which you can use as in rocker or stationary position to keep you baby comfortable or Britax Flexx, Steelcraft Strider Signature, Steelcraft Strider Compact Deluxe edition or Steelcraft Savvi bassinet if you don’t want to hold your baby for the whole film. Check out your local cinema to find out what they offer.

3. Long weekend drives

You’ve got to admit that going for a long drive is far more appealing in the cooler months. The car is comfortable, you can admire the falling autumn leaves on your journey and you can choose a destination with a roaring fire and the promise of a hot lunch. What’s not to love?!

Even if you’re travelling to sub-zero temperatures this winter, you can be sure your bub will be warm and cosy in their car seat. Britax’s newest seats include added comfort with body comforting memory properties for those long journeys and Thermo5 fabric. Hopefully, wherever you’re driving, your baby will snooze away leaving you to admire the scenery in peace.

4. Join an indoor activity

Joining a mums and bubs activity group can be a great, fail-safe option in winter, particularly when the weather is terrible. There are many options such as heading to the local library. They often run a weekly ‘rhymetime’ that is often appropriate from babies as young as a few months. You can take your Britax Safe-n-Sound Unity or Steelcraft capsule or Britax Flexx, Steelcraft Strider Signature, Steelcraft Strider Compact Deluxe edition or Steelcraft Savvi strollers with you to these sessions. The Steelcraft Strider Signature, Steelcrafter Strider Compact Deluxe edition and Savvi strollers each have a 12kg capacity storage basket, so there’s plenty of space for library books.

5. Join an indoor sports class

You can get active in a mums and bubs sports class like yoga or pilates. There are lots of classes where your bub can lie next to you on a mat or in a Britax Safe-n-Sound Unity or Steelcraft capsule while you work out. Then you can feed them when you need and don’t even have to think about putting them in a creche.

Best of all, these activities help you meet other local parents and give you another way to enjoy time with your baby. Have fun!
