Booster seats differ from a harnessed car seat in that a booster seat, by definition, simply “boosts” the child up so that the vehicle seat belt is positioned correctly across the child’s hips and shoulder/middle of the chest. Booster seats rely on the vehicle seat belts to hold both the child and the booster seat in position.
Harnessed seats have an internal harness system that is used to restrain the child.
Air bags are designed for an adult’s mass and may not provide an appropriate impact environment for children, So:
- Where there are side Air bags / curtains fitted, a child should not sleep with their head against the side of the car
- Rearward facing restraints should never be used where there is a forward mounted air bag.
- Keep children away from air bag systems.
- Side / curtain airbags should not affect forward facing seats however you should refer to your vehicle's owner’s manual for further recommendations.
Check with vehicle manufacturers’ agent in regard to deactivation of an air bag system if necessary. Follow all advice listed in your vehicles owner manual.
We would only recommend that you spot clean the harness with a damp sponge. The harness straps can be soaked however they must be dried thoroughly without excessive heat (do not tumble dry). The harness straps should not be place in a washing machine as this may cause damaged to the stitching, etc or damage your washing machine. There are combination of washer/dryer and this could be dangerous.
