B-First & CLICKTIGHT

QUESTION:

What is the CLICKTIGHT Installation System?

ANSWER:

The CLICKTIGHT Installation System makes safe car seat installation as simple as buckling a seat belt so that everyone can install with real confidence in just a few easy steps.
Whether installing with lower ISOFIX latch connectors or the vehicle seat belt, car seat installation can be considered to be a struggle, often leaving us wondering “Did I do it right?” “Is it tight, secure enough?”. The revolutionary CLICKTIGHT Installation System, you can install your child’s Car Seat using the vehicle seat belt and get a safe, secure and easy installation, with fewer steps every time – in both rearward or forward-facing.

QUESTION:

How does CLICKTIGHT work?

ANSWER:

CLICKTIGHT is a unique patented design that uses a clever tensioning system and locking mechanism to both tension and lock the seat belt at the same time.

QUESTION:

Why do I need CLICKTIGHT?

ANSWER:

Did you know far too many child seats are installed incorrectly? It is estimated over 75%. An improperly installed car seat can leave your child vulnerable to injury in the event of a crash so. CLICKTIGHT allows you to easily achieve a safe and secure car seat installation every time.

CLICKTIGHT is effortless, no shoving, kneeing or yanking required. CLICKTIGHT does all the work for you. The unique combination of an extremely simple yet secure installation allows you to install with real confidence every time.

QUESTION:

I thought ISOFIX easier anyway?

ANSWER:

• ISOFIX requires the user to apply tension to 2 connectors + installation of top tether. Correct tensioning still requires additional force applied to the seat as well as multiple checks during installation.

•The preferred position for rearward facing is in the centre seat of the vehicle. However, the majority of vehicles do not have ISOFIX anchorages in the centre seating area, therefore traditional seat belt installation should be used.

• With CLICKTIGHT, tensioning is easier, installation is faster, no matter which position.

QUESTION:

My child can reach the CLICKTIGHT button, will they be able to open the seat?

ANSWER:

We have specifically designed the CLICKTIGHT release button to be a 2 step release, “twist and push”. Much like child proof bottle caps, the “ twist and push” action requires a combination of “co-ordination, dexterity and finger strength” that is above the usual range of a child.

QUESTION:

I’m going to have my child seat professionally fitted, why do I need CLICKTIGHT?

ANSWER:

First time parent or growing family? We recommend having your child seat installed by a professional installer at least once. Professional installers are not just car seat fitters. Look for an installer who will provide you with tips about travelling safely with your child in your vehicle.

Why CLICKTIGHT? Did you know, you will most likely need to move your child seat more than once in the first year of use? Unplanned trips, having to move adults in the back seat on occasion or even perhaps a nasty spill that needs cleaning, CLICKTIGHT installation, provides you peace of mind, when you have to do it on the go.

QUESTION:

Will CLICKTIGHT damage my seat belt?

ANSWER:

Our lab has performed extensive rub testing to examine how the CLICKTIGHT System interacts with the vehicle’s seat belt. Over 15,000 rub cycles later, there was little to no evidence of wear along the seat belt.

QUESTION:

Do I need to use Gated Buckle to secure my B-First?

ANSWER:

No, the CLICKTIGHT design inherently “locks off” the vehicle seat belt when the frame is closed. However, some vehicle’s may be fitted with “low friction” seat belts. This can be difficult to tension / secure when installing any car seat OR can be more prevalent to loosening over time. If you encounter this issue we recommend you seek the advice of a professional fitter who may decide to use gated buckle to overcome these issues with low friction seatbelts.

QUESTION:

Can I use a Seat Belt extender?

ANSWER:

No, we do not advocate the use of aftermarket accessories other than Britax branded accessories. Should you have any issues with vehicle seat belt length, we recommend seeing a professional installer.

QUESTION:

Does it matter if the seat belt is twisted during installation?

ANSWER:

We suggest removing twists and slack during installation. However, should you have a twist in the belt by accident and close the frame, the seat will function safely. Keep in mind though, your seatbelt may end up with a crease in it over time.

QUESTION:

Can I retro fit CLICKTIGHT to my existing car seat?

ANSWER:

No, CLICKTIGHT is specifically designed into this child seat. It is not sold as an accessory and cannot be retrofitted to other seats.

QUESTION:

My seat is fitted firmly, do I need to use the Top Tether?

ANSWER:

QUESTION:

What is the difference between the Advanced SICT and Platinum SICT?

ANSWER:

We know space is an issue, especially with growing families. With B-First we have designed our first “deployable” Side Impact Protection system. This means you can deploy SICT on the side that it is required i.e. the side closest to the car door. That means if B-First is placed in the centre rear seating position, then the SICT is not required to be deployed at all. In comparison, our Platinum Pro seat does not give you a choice when it comes to using SICT and as a result, the Platinum Pro is wider. B-First is the same width as Millenia.

QUESTION:

Can I purchase Advanced SICT for my Platinum / Millenia?

ANSWER:

No, it cannot be purchased as an accessory.

QUESTION:

The SICT touches the door, is that safe?

ANSWER:

The SICT should be wound out fully but should not contact the door. If the SICT is contacting the door, simply wind it in to leave about 5 -8mm clearance.
Why? When a car door is slammed shut it can travel past it’s intended ‘design’ closed position. This is called “over-travel”. If the SICT is wound out to make contact with the closed vehicle door, it is likely that if the car door is slammed it will come into contact with the SICT, potentially damaging the car door interior or leaving a mark on your child restraint.

QUESTION:

The SICT touches the other seat or child, is this OK?

ANSWER:

The SICT should only be wound out on the door side and should not interact with another passenger or another car seat.

QUESTION:

Do I need SICT if the seat is fitted in the centre position?

ANSWER:

No. This is what makes B-First so great and versatile.
Why? SICT is specifically designed to crumple on impact and disperse large amounts of energy at a controlled rate. These kinds of forces are only seen on the impact side of the vehicle so there is no need to deploy SICT unless it is adjacent to a vehicle door.

QUESTION:

Is B-First safe if I don’t deploy the SICT?

ANSWER:

Yes. The seat is certified with the Advanced SICT deployed and undeployed. For maximum protection unwind the SICT on the door side only.

QUESTION:

What is Crumple Zone feature?

ANSWER:

Crumple Zone is a “crash” term. In a car it refers to the area of the car that crumples during an accident to help lower the crash forces during an impact. B-First’s Advanced SICT is designed to crumple and lower the crash forces that your child will feel in a side collision.

QUESTION:

Why do I have to have the Rearward Facing Level Indicator within range?

ANSWER:

When transporting new born babies or younger children in rearward facing mode it’s important to choose a seat angle that is optimised for your child’s needs. This range is specified by the AS/NZS 1754:2013 std. Too flat is not good in a frontal collision, too upright is not good for supporting your babies head and neck whilst transporting them. The level indicator offers you an optimal range when installing the B-First seat to your car.

QUESTION:

The ball is not fully visible in the range, is it still OK?

ANSWER:

The ball should not be completely hidden in rearward facing mode. It’s OK to see part of the ball.

QUESTION:

Can I adjust the angle of my seat to a more layback position?

ANSWER:

Yes, as long as the ball is partly visible.

QUESTION:

Can I adjust the angle of my seat to a more upright position?

ANSWER:

Yes, as long as the ball is partly visible.

QUESTION:

I can’t see the ball?

ANSWER:

Adjust the angle until you can see part of the ball.

QUESTION:

Are you able to fit this “indicator” to my current seat?

QUESTION:

I have a really small baby, can I use an additional comfort insert?

ANSWER:

QUESTION:

How do the Ventilation Zones provide more comfort?

ANSWER:

If your vehicle has rear air vents in the back seat, the cool air can flow through B-First Ventilation Zones offering more comfort to your child in rearward facing.

QUESTION:

How is the Closed Protective shell safer?

ANSWER:

The closed shell design provides enhanced shielding to ensure the child is contained within deeper side wings of the child seat. This creates an increased protective barrier between the child and the vehicle.

QUESTION:

How do I access the internal harness?

ANSWER:

To access the yoke follow these steps:

1. Place the seat of a flat surface in a fully upright position.

2. Press the harness adjuster button and raise the headrest to the highest setting.

3. Finally, drop the head rest to the lowest setting. The yoke should appear behind the seat base.

QUESTION:

Can I swap the adjuster from the Top Tether from side to side?

ANSWER:

Yes, the Top Tether can be easily swapped from side to side. Simply drop the headrest to the lowest position and peel back the cover. Open the rear access door to expose the top tether anchor location. Refer to the instruction manual.

QUESTION:

Do I need to use Gated Buckle during installation?

ANSWER:

Typically, the answer is no. B-First was developed, tested and certified without the need for a gated buckle. But we appreciate that not all vehicles are made the same. Our B-First is designed to simplify installation and offer CLICKTIGHT self tensioning system to make installing your car seat a simpler and easier process. However, differences in vehicle rear seat padding and seat belt webbing can make child seat installations difficult to get right. When such issues arise seek the advice of a Professional Fitter to determine if any additional devices are required to obtain a secure and correct fit in your vehicle.

QUESTION:

Can I use a Seat Belt extender?

ANSWER:
No, we do not advocate the use of aftermarket accessories other than Britax branded accessories.

QUESTION:

I can’t see the push button from the harness adjuster, it is difficult to press?

ANSWER:

The harness adjuster is accessed through the lower hole on the bezel. The button is positioned to make it difficult for a child to access. This is an improved location from our other models.

QUESTION:

I can’t find the button to release the rebound bar?

ANSWER:

The rebound bar can be stowed away when moving from rearward facing to forward facing. When uninstalling B-First from your car, “twist and push” the CLICKTIGHT button, open the CLICKTIGHT frame and remove the vehicle seat belt. Whilst the CLICKTIGHT frame is open you will be able to access the grey rebound bar release button.

QUESTION:

Is this seat ISOFIX Capable?

ANSWER:

No.

QUESTION:

Can I fit ISOFIX latches to this seat?

ANSWER:

No.

QUESTION:

Why doesn’t it have ISOFIX?

ANSWER:

CLICKTIGHT is a Fast, Safe and Secure installation system that can be used in any position of the back seat of your vehicle. Installation with CLICKTIGHT is done in fewer steps than ISOFIX.

There are very few vehicles that have centre seat ISOFIX anchorages which means you cannot use ISOFIX in this location.
